- Q: How is Athos different from all the wrist bands and other devices that claim to track my activity?
- A: The data those products collect and provide to you is generated at a single point (wrist, arm, around the neck) and uses that single point to predict what you were doing with the rest of your body and at what intensity. The Athos Core and Base Series clothing collects detailed information about what your body is actually doing allowing us to track your muscle and energy output more accurately than you ever imagined was possible. We also provide you with real time feedback so that you can work to fine tune your workout before it’s over.
- Q: When will I get my Athos gear?
- A: We’re working really hard with our hardware and apparel manufacturing partners to get you a high quality product as soon as possible. We’re expecting to begin shipping out our first products at the beginning of Summer 2014. We’ll be sending out periodic email updates to keep you in the loop about any news.
- Q: How does the referral program work?
- A: When you complete your order, we’ll provide you with a unique URL that you can share with friends and family. When they click on that link and make a purchase, they’ll be given a $10 discount towards their Athos gear AND you’ll also be credited with $10 which will be taken off your total.
Let’s say your total comes out to $298 – If you get 5 friends to purchase using your unique URL, you’ll save $50! If you get 20 friends to buy with your unique URL you’ll end up spending less than $100! - Q: When will I get charged?
- A: We won’t charge your credit card until we’re ready to ship your products. At least 48 hours before we plan on charging your card, we’ll let you know so that there are no surprises.
- Q: Do I have to pay for shipping costs in the US?
- A: No. Shipping is free in the US.
- Q: Why aren’t you selling outside of the US yet?
- A: We’ve heard your feedback and are working to get Athos gear to you as soon as possible. We’re still figuring out international import/export rules, foreign taxes, and international shipping. Sign up for our email distribution list so that when we do expand, you’ll be among the first to know.
- Q: What devices are compatible?
- A: At launch we’re planning to support any iOS device that is running iOS 7 and has Bluetooth 4.0 (also known as BLE, Bluetooth Low Energy, or Bluetooth SMART). Right now that means we support the iPhone 4s and later, iPad 3 and later, iPod Touch 5, iPad mini (from its introduction).
- Q: Do you support Android devices?
- A: Not yet, but we’re working on it. Sign up below for email updates so we can let you know when we launch on Google Play!
- Q: What is the return policy?
- A: At Athos we make it a priority to provide a great customer experience. If at any time between now and when we ship your products you decide this isn’t for you, we’ll cancel the order and never charge you. If you get your product and anything is wrong, or you’re just not satisfied, just let us know and we’ll take it back and give you a full refund. Just email us at [email protected].

- Q: What kind of data does the app provide me with?
- A:
Since we know when and how intensely each muscle is being activated, we are able to provide insights that have previously been impossible. Some of our features include:
- Muscle Effort – Our summary score but with more specific and precise data used to calculate it.
- Activation – We know whether you’re contracting your muscles or stretching them. We’ll be able to show to what degree you’re activating them to make sure you’re getting a quality workout every time you put on our gear.
- Heart Rate – With no straps! We also use Heart rate in conjunction with your muscle data to ensure you are working out in your target cardio zone.
- Breathing – ‘Breathing is life’, as they say in yoga. Step up your fitness by taking control of your breathing rate to get the most out of your workout – whether it be resistance training, cardio, or yoga.
- Reps – We’ll keep track of your lunges, presses and all of your other rep and set counts.
- Left vs Right Balance – Make sure you’re pedaling, lifting and stretching evenly on both sides.
- Cadence – Most valuable for cycling but also valuable for running.
- Form – We’ll show you helpful maps of which muscles you’re activating when so you can understand how to improve.
- Active vs Rest Time – Get a summary of how much time you spend active and resting during your workout.
- Q: How will I consume the data my Athos apparel is providing me?
- A: When we begin shipping your Athos apparel you’ll be able to go to the iTunes App Store to download the Athos app for your Apple device. Check out a list above for compatible iDevices.

- Q: What are the sensors measuring?
- A: The electrical signals that your muscles put out when they are exerting force or stretching. Our sensors also measure heart rate and breathing rate.
- Q: Tell me more about what the sensors are measuring.
- A: This is based on electromyography or EMG, a technique that has been used in the medical and exercise physiology community for more than 50 years. We have revolutionized this field and made this technology accessible to the consumer.
- Q: How long does the battery last on the Core?
- A: The Core’s battery has been designed to last for 10 hours of workout time – So that means if you work out for 1 hour, 3 times a week, the battery will last for over 2 weeks!
- Q: Is it water proof? Can I go swimming with it? Can I put it in the washing machine?
- A: Athos apparel is washable just like any other fitness gear. The Core will hold up to heavy doses of sweat, the occasional rain shower (for those dramatic, rainy rides), and even the sudden splash of water (during that epic, muddy trail run). We strongly recommend that you remove your Core before you put your clothing in the washing machine. Neither the Core nor the apparel is designed to be taken for a swim… yet.

- Q: Pro tip: Athos apparel is a base layer.
- A: The clothing and sensors need to be on your skin to work and you cannot wear anything under it (sports bras excluded). Using Athos as your base layer, you can wear anything you like over it. Perhaps your favorite Athos t-shirt?
- Q: Will I feel the sensors?
- A: The sensors are low profile and designed to be comfortable. You will feel them at first but your body will quickly adapt to them, just like your body adapts to wearing any clothes.
- Q: What size am I? How should this fit?
- A: To figure out your size, click on the Pre-order button and check out the Sizing Tool. This is compression apparel, so it should fit tightly. This will help promote healthy blood flow during workouts which also helps aid quicker recovery.
- Q: I sweat a lot, will that be a problem?
- A: This isn’t a problem. We’ve done extensive testing on very sweaty athletes and the sensors perform beautifully.
- Q: Will the sensors work through arm/leg hair?
- A: Our sensors are designed to work through the hair on your skin. We’ve done extensive testing on many different athletes to confirm this.
- Q: Washing and Drying Tips
- A: We recommend that you wash your Athos clothes on the cold setting and air dry. Doing this will give your apparel the longest life possible.
